  9.         Albert G. Brejcha and Thomas R. Gavin have been
  10. appointed to key posts in reliability and quality assurance
  11. at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory by William S. Shipley,
  12. assistant laboratory director for engineering and review.
  13.         Gavin, a Pennsylvanian with a degree in chemistry
  14. from Villanova University, is the new manager of the Quality
  15. Assurance and Electronic Parts Division.  Most recently he
  16. served as reliability and quality assurance manager for
  17. Project Galileo, due for launch later this year for an
  18. extended examination of the planet Jupiter.  Gavin previously
  19. held a similar post with the Voyager project, which has been
  20. exploring the outer planets for ten years.  He will continue
  21. to support Galileo as an additional responsibility. 
  22.         Brejcha, a native of Chicago with degrees from the
  23. University of Illinois in electrical engineering and from
  24. California State Polytechnic University at Pomona in
  25. management, will manage the Reliability and Safety Division. 
  26. He developed and designed spacecraft communications hardware
  27. and was responsible for spacecraft antenna systems for
  28. various Mariner projects and for Viking, Seasat, Voyager, and
  29. Galileo, and managed product assurance and program
  30. engineering staffs. 
  31.         Shipley, himself a spacecraft project veteran,stressed the importance of experience in space projects and
  32. working with industrial contractors in the newly appointed
  33. reliability and quality assurance managers.  "They understand
  34. the issues involved in making our hardware work," he says.
  35.         Brejcha lives in Glendora, California with his wife
  36. and two daughters; Gavin resides in Canyon Country with his
  37. wife and four children.
